Body&Voice Balancing
in Hamburg EimsbüttelVoice coaching
The approach of my training is based on creativity and flexibility. I want to reach the singer – indivdually, and according to every single moment. The natural function of the voice is where I start, singing should always feel organic and effortless. The means that get us there depend on your learning preferences as well as your day`s form: Feeling, hearing, movement, touch, expression, anatomy, technique, relaxation/tension, work on the text, handle emotions… The aims of my teaching include exercises in vocal balance and placement, the modal and falsetto registers, singing through the passage areas, expanding range, and broadening timbre and vocal colors (overtones), as well as increasing vocal power, endurance, agility and dynamics – and the ability to use these skills fully and with all your courage! Breathing and vocal exercises are individually developed to meet the personal demands of each singer and his or her repertoire. I teach nearly every vocal style, from classical to jazz and pop.
Artistic work
I want to support your personal expression. Together, we work on text interpretation and performance, stylistics and improvisation. I find that experimenting through play and fun is a great basis for this work.
Student concerts
Concerts benefit from the professional accompaniment of Henrike Gebauer (p, git) and Wolfgang Peters (stagecraft). The concerts are filmed and can thus serve as an orientation for our further work. These gigs include special choir and ensemble projects. With YOUR audience and certainly with a lot of fun!
Preparation for exams and castings
I provide: advice on your choice of material; musical and technical support work on your songs; performance practice and evaluation; advice for handling exam situations. If needed, I also support you with aural training, harmonics and rhythm training.
Work on character and performance
We focus on: text and character interpretation; vocal, body and facial expression; stylistics; requisites and microphone work; stage use; building rapport with the audience; coping with stage fright; and (further) development of stage personas.

Body Balancing

Mental Training
Through an exact knowledge of their structures, we can teach our bodies new patterns of movement much more easily. My understanding of anatomy and physiology function is based on a model that stems from osteopathy and work with fascia, such as myofascial release. The common imagery used in voice coaching instructions (“lead your voice into the back of your head“, ”sing with your legs,” etc.) becomes explainable in a physical way and can be achieved by the singer through a combination of anatomical understanding, physical self-awareness and intentional modulation.
Touch it!
Body structures love touch! There are many times we turn to touch automatically, like when we massage aching muscles, press certain acupuncture points or stretch muscles that have too much tension. Through vocal coaching, directed touch leads to results much more quickly because we can communicate with our bodies directly, without involving our heads. “Loosen up your jaw!” “Lift your soft palate!” – you’ve heard you should do them, but aren’t shown how to? During vocal coaching, `directed touch` leads to results much more quickly, Learning to manually analyze our bodies helps us clearly understand their structure and improve performance. Feedback from regular touch practice improves flexibility and brings us into better contact with our vocal instrument, keeping our bodies and voices supple.
Cranial and Visceral Osteopathy, Myofascial Release
My own wonderful experiences as a client made me want to offer these services especially to singers. Work in and around the mouth is a powerful tool that can lead to a deeper understanding of our vocal resonance.
Relaxation techniques for the respiratory muscles are, in my experience, as necessary as vocal training; in my opinion, this work is extremely beneficial.
Take a Step
We take two and a half to three hours to dedicate ourselves to a certain area. You keep coming upon problems with your lower jaw during vocal exercises? You have difficulties feeling resonance in your frontal sinuses? You can’t seem to ground your voice properly in your body? I use my whole palette of tools in order to help you open new – or old – doors. A preliminary telephone conversation is part of this program.
Breathing Types: the Inhaler and the Exhaler (Lunar/Solar)
If body posture und function are natural and singing feels and sounds good, we’re not interested in different types and labels. But if this isn’t yet the case, the “Breathing Types System” can be very helpful to get to know and play with the different possibilities available to us and our voices.
Last but not least: Emotions
Beginners and pros in particular often face the same challenge. Both groups are prone to blocking themselves: fear of failing, stage fright and self-criticism can eat up a lot of our energy. Practicing self-awareness and boosting self-esteem are core issues for me, applicable to far more in life than just singing.
„When the children paint, they paint whatever comes out of their mind. They do not paint in order to please people…they put out whatever comes out of their mind. So in the same way I feel that we need to do the same. We need to first…express our own positive side and our own good things. And when we are able to do that, then only maybe we are able to actually do something that`s acceptable and helpful to the others.“
